World Languages

At Eastmark, we encourage students to become lifelong learners of other languages. Our students receive varied and creative activities to learn listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and gain an understanding of various cultures.

Spanish I

This course is an introduction to the Spanish language and culture. Students will learn basic vocabulary related to people, places, things and actions close to their own lives. They will express themselves in phrases, short sentences, and memorized material exhibiting an emerging control of the most common basic grammatical forms and structures. Their written language will reflect what they can say. Students will gain an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of language and cultures. Spanish is used in classroom activities. Our Spanish curriculum aligns to the State of Arizona World Languages Standards and to those of ACTFL, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Spanish II

This course helps students reach higher levels of accuracy by focusing on the development of communicative skills, reading, writing and understanding of the target language and culture. Students will continue to learn more complex grammatical structures, by communication at a higher level on familiar topics using a variety of words and phrases learned in class. Our Spanish curriculum aligns to the State of Arizona World Languages Standards and to those of ACTFL, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.

Honors Spanish III

Students will build proficiency through the use of real world materials, such as films, broadcasts, newspaper and magazine articles, and contemporary literature. They will build on skills from previous Spanish classes to become more effective communicators. In written work, students will learn to express themselves in different ways and tailor arguments to different audiences. Students will continue to gain an understanding of the diversity of language and cultures.
